AT&T taking Samsung a867 Eternity orders from stores, should be available this week

This item was filled under [ Mobile ]

We’re hearing that the MediaFLO-packing, TouchWiz-having, HSDPA-sporting Samsung Eternity is now available for order by AT&T stores, and when this happens, phones are typically available for purchase at the counter within a few days. It’ll be an interesting alternative to the Vu — and for AT&T customers looking longingly toward the Behold, this might just be the ticket to staying put.

Samsung Cleo launches in sassy, stylish Canada

This item was filled under [ Mobile ]

We heard a while back that the Samsung Cleo was on its way, and and now it’s arrived — well, if you’re lucky enough to live in Canada, anyway. It’s not the only square flip phone on the planet, but it’s definitely the most fashion-conscious. As far as we can tell, specs are pretty much beside the point, but it’s got a QWERTY keyboard, color LCD screen, 1.3-megapixel camera, MP3 playback, and expandable memory up to 8GB (we’re guessing in microSD format). Mindbender: Samsung Yepp Cube Puzzle MP3

This item was filled under [ IPod & Mp3 ]

I simply dread the Rubik Cube; whenever I was set up for a challenge, I would end up switching the color stickers to crack the game. I know, shame on me for cheating! But puzzles get me all wicked! As far as the Samsung Yepp Cube Puzzle MP3, I know I won’t be such a goose.

Pioneer wins plasma patent case over Samsung, awarded $59.3 million

Pioneer may be licking its wounds, but at least there’s one bright spot on an otherwise dark end-of-year. The US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in Marshall (read: patent troll heaven) recently found that “Samsung willfully infringed two Pioneer patents covering plasma display technology,” leading to a settlement which involves Samsung handing Pioneer a check for $59,351,480. Samsung has yet to comment on the ruling, but it’s pretty easy to imagine what it’s probably thinking, wouldn’t you say?

Samsung’s T*Omnia: all that and double the i900 Omnia’s resolution

Samsung's T*Omnia: all that and double the i900 Omnia's resolution

Like the i900 Omnia, eh? We sure did. Well here’s its prettier, smarter cousin tagged the T*Omnia. For the most part, it’s the same quad-band, WinMo 6.1 candybar with 7.2Mbps HSDPA data, WiFi, GPS, 5 megapixel cam, and nifty TouchWiz UI we’ve seen for months. But this hometown Korean version bumps the display to a WVGA, 800 x 480 pixels (up from 400 x 240) while slapping in a DMB digital television tuner to ensure it’s non-Stateside status for eternity… at least with this specific configuration. Perhaps Verizon would be so kind as to make use of that display? [ VIA engadgetmobile.com ]

AT&T planning femtocell trial later this year

This item was filled under [ Mobile ]

Say it ain’t so! We can only imagine that there are quite a few folks out there who will be absolutely elated to hear this news, so we’ll get right to it: a femtocell is (likely) coming to AT&T. Nah, we haven’t spied any in the wild shots of a rumored box or anything, but a carrier spokeswoman admitted to Unstrung that “as the nation’s leading provider of both wireless and broadband, it makes sense that we would examine the potential benefits of femtocells for our customers.” Better still, she continued by affirming that it was “currently doing testing in its labs and a trial [was] planned for later this year.” Aside from that, we’ve no real details to pore over, but all we really needed to know has been said. Sprint and Verizon won’t be the only providers offering up an in-home mini cell tower, and we’d say this can’t possibly come soon enough for AT&Ters sitting squarely in a fringe coverage area.

Samsung released 0.05 mm OLED display

Sony OLED display thickness of 0.3 mm has been very Zhashe, but Samsung has refused the slightest sign of weakness, they recently held in Tokyo on display at FPD International 2008, only a thickness of 0.05 mm ultra-thin displays. The size of 4-inch display, up to 100,000:1 contrast ratio, brightness of 200cd/m2,, a resolution of 480 × 272.

In order to highlight its ultra-thin thickness, Samsung made a special display this will be named the “flapping display” (display of fluttering).

Despite this display of the thickness of a sheet of paper with similar, but Samsung said. They can do it thinner!

Samsung's C6620 looks fun, means business with WinMo 6.1

Along with the change in naming convention comes a change in industrial design, and the C6620 — one of the first smartphones to make use of Samsung’s annoying new one-letter, four-digit scheme — definitely looks a bit different than your average WinMo piece out of Seoul. Italian carrier TIM appears to be the first in the world to offer it, featuring triband GSM along with HSDPA, Bluetooth (we should certainly hope so), and a 2-megapixel camera — not earth-shattering by any stretch, but we’re digging the two-tone thing they’ve got going on here. It’s selling for €199 (about $254), which we think makes this (or something very close to it) a perfect spiritual successor to the original BlackJack, yeah?

I saw the Samsung INNOV8 at the store last week, priced around $840 and it’s unlocked, but I haven’t seen the Samsung Pixon M8800 around yet. Recap, the Samsung Pixon M8800 has been claimed as the slimmest full-touch 8.0-megapixel camera phone. Measuring 13.8mm slim, and the 8.0-megapixel camera boasts 16x digital zoom, auto-focus, fast-shutter, face detection and geo-tagging. Continue reading…
