Lenovo's ThinkCentre M58 / M58p desktops keep the green scheme alive

Sheesh — feels like just yesterday Lenovo was sounding the green alarm with its ThinkCentre M57 / M57P desktops, and now we’re faced with the predictably named successors, the M58 / M58p. Hailed as the firm’s “greenest, most secure and most manageable ThinkCentre desktop PC yet,” both machines boast Power Manager, a “ThinkVantage technology that allows PC users to control their electricity consumption remotely. Said inclusion is being made available for the first time ever on a ThinkCentre PC, and the array of password / security features is sure to give you peace of mind while inducing migraine headaches. The new crew is available in three form factors — tower, small form factor (SFF) and ultra small form factor — and includes Intel’s Core 2 Duo chips and a presumably average selection of RAM, HDD and optical drive. Catch all but the USFF rig right now for $499 and $899, respectively.

Lenovo ThinkPad X200s reviewed: it’s worth the splurge

Lenovo ThinkPad X200s reviewed: its worth the splurge

Lenovo ThinkPad X200s reviewed: it's worth the splurge

If the X200t is just too convertible-y for you, and the standard X200 just doesn’t last long enough for your 18-hour plane rides, the X200s won’t do you any good either. If you only need 10-hours of juice, however, this unit is just about perfect. The ultraportable does give up some raw horsepower in order to deliver such stunning life, but true road warriors will certainly make the sacrifice. Critics over at Laptop Mag were duly impressed with just about everything the pricey X200s was packing, noting that the keyboard was “excellent,” the design was sturdy and the screen was clean and crisp. Additionally, they found that the power decrease wasn’t too noticeable in real-world use, though they did lament the omission of a WWAN module (agreed!) and webcam. Bottom line? These folks found it well “worth the splurge,” though we’d recommend giving the full spill a read if you’re seriously on the fence.

Lenovo launches ho hum $399 H210 desktop PC

As you very well know, Lenovo’s entirely more associated with rock solid laptops than desktops of any stature, but that’s not stopping the outfit from dishing out a new tower today for under four bills. The H210 sports a glossy black finish, Lenovo’s VeriFace facial recognition technology (which bites, by the way) and a feature dubbed File Management to “save critical data on a special system partition in the event of system failure.” As for specs, you’ll find your choice of Intel’s dual-core E2200 or the Core 2 Duo E7200, between 2GB and 4GB of RAM, 500GB / 640GB hard drive, a dual-layer DVD writer, Intel’s GMA3100 graphics set and a bunch of software you’ll probably find more annoying than useful. It’s available now for those somehow enthused starting at $399.

Cloud of Promise - 2008 Olympic Torch by Lenovo

Today the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) in the presence of the International Olympic Committee, unveiled the Lenovo-designed Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch and announced Lenovo’s role as a Worldwide Partner of the Olympic Torch Relay. Lenovo’s design, the “Cloud of Promise,” was chosen over 300 competitor themes and will be carried by torchbearers around the world in the Olympic Torch Relay preceding the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Since its inception in 1936, the Olympic torch has come to represent the history and culture of its host country and city. Lenovo’s unique approach for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch incorporates a sleek and modern design with historical Chinese symbolism. The primary theme of the torch’s artwork is clouds, which are intimately associated with Chinese culture, and are often represented in works of Chinese architecture, drawing and painting, furniture and story-telling.

The torch, fashioned from a polished aluminum-magnesium alloy, measures 720 millimeters x 50 mm x 40 mm (28.35 inches x 1.97 in x 1.56 in) and is exceptionally lightweight at about 1,000 grams (2.21 pounds).
