HTC's Touch HD gets overseas hands-on treatment

While the Touch HD remains an overseas treat for now, we’re left to check out the realm of CNET’s UK branch in order to get an up close and personal look at HTC’s finest (arguably, of course). As we already saw in the pre-release pics, this beauty is as fine as ever, boasting a marvelous screen and striking curves. Enough chatter — tap the read link to get all sorts of envious yourself.

HTC Touch Pro now available for purchase online, as promised

We heard last week when Sprint launched the HTC Touch Pro at “select national retailers” that the device would be available online on November 2nd. Well, it’s November 2nd, and they’ve kept their promise. The base retail price of the QWERTY smartphone is $579.99, but an “instant savings” of $180 combined with a $100 mail-in-rebate brings the price down to palatable $299.99 (with a 2-year agreement, needless to say). Of course, if you’re really starved for human contact, you could always head over to a Sprint store and buy one in person, too.

Update:
Had a little trouble with those read links — all fixed now.

T-Mobile G1 launched in the UK

This item was filled under [ Mobile ]

Just in time for the big (if somewhat quirky) G1 unlocking, Android fans in the UK will be getting their chance to purchase the T-Mobile handset starting today. Britons began queuing up on Oxford Street as early as 5 am to get the phone, currently available for free with a 2-year £40 ($65) monthly contract. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, The Gadget Inspectors went to Google’s London HQ for a hands-on review (nothing new to Engadget die-hards, but it’s interesting to see what they make of the device). Video after the break.

EA reveals Android gaming plans: Tetris, Bejeweled, Monopoly, oh my!

Hot on the heels of Electronic Arts kinda-sorta slamming Nokia for its lackluster N-Gage gaming platform comes word that the video game giant will be dabbling in the world of Android here shortly. Unsurprisingly, we’re informed that Tetris will be the first Android title out, while Bejeweled and Monopoly should follow suit in November. According to EA Mobile vice president Adam Sussman, “Android is another exciting new platform to offer customers great games with enhancements like touch and tilt capabilities,” and while we weren’t given specifics outside of the aforesaid titles, more games are definitely “in development.”

White HTC Touch Diamond spotted in the wild

It’s an HTC Touch Diamond. And it’s white. Must be a white HTC Touch Diamond! Right on cue, HTC’s lavishly colored Touch Diamond has surfaced in the wild, and reportedly, it’ll be on sale soon in the Netherlands (among other places). We’re also directed to an interesting “Pimp My Diamond” website, which will seemingly enable any Touch Diamond owner to snap on a new shell to fit their mood. Wait, does that mean the white one isn’t so special anymore? For shame…

Touch Diamond release on Alltel looks imminent

It hasn’t been officially put up for sale just yet, but a handful of lucky Alltel types have already managed to land branded Touch Diamonds as evidenced by a full-on unboxing that has recently surfaced on HoFo. For all practical purposes, it looks identical to Sprint’s version, albeit with a different branded TouchFLO skin that could be perceived as less annoying if you hate that splash of Sprint yellow or more annoying if you prefer the dark look. At any rate, can’t be long now, guys.

Sprint delaying HTC Touch Pro by a little bit

Bad news, Sprint users. That HTC Touch Pro you’ve probably been waiting for won’t be ready for your soft, delicate hands on Sunday. According to an undisclosed contact at the carrier, the outfit is expected to “slightly delay [the] launch of the Touch Pro by HTC to ensure it has adequate inventory in all channels before making the device commercially available.” If you’re looking for specifics, we’re told that consumers can expect the handset “in select national retailers by the end of the month and then in all Sprint sales channels (including online at www.sprint.com and Sprint stores) by early November.” It’s not that next month is really that far away, it’s just that next month isn’t on Sunday. Bugger.

Telus Touch Pro breaks cover again courtesy of Future Shop

Best Buy already did the honors a few weeks ago, but it seems like the release of Telus’ Touch Pro is imminent now that Future Shop is… oh, you know, actually listing it in its mailings with a price and all. Excited Windows Mobile fans (and converts — if such creatures exist) can apparently look to pay $239.99 CAD (about $206) on a three-year agreement, and you get a $50 gift card to boot. We’re hearing that these are still difficult — if not impossible — to actually come by in Future Shop locations, but they’ve got to be shipping any minute now.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 unboxed, played with on video

Oh yeah, you’ve seen Sony Ericsson’s succulent XPERIA X1 unboxed in still image form, but there’s just nothing like a little unpacking on video to really whet your appetite, right? Oh, and there’s also some comparison action thrown in with the HTC Touch Pro, and of course, we get to see the OS in action. Hop on past the break to have a look, but we’re warning you, those who covet easily will want to restrain themselves.

1.5 million T-Mobile G1s already pre-ordered

T-Mobile sold right out of its original allotment of G1 pre-orders quick, fast and in a hurry, and even the second round has been claimed in a flash. What’s it all mean? It means that someone at T-Mobile and Google are sitting in a fancy restaurant in France sipping on the good stuff, and it also means that 1.5 million G1s have already been reserved for eager early adopters. In addition to that, another couple of million are all set to take the retail scene by storm later this month. In other words, folks are genuinely stoked about the possibilities of Android, and scads of ‘em have already committed to the OS (and HTC’s design, by extension) before even having a chance to toy around with it in person. No pressure at all, Google.
