Touch-screen kit for Aspire One and Eee PC 900/901 hits eBay, no soldering required

You know you’ve made it when your little-laptops-that-could sit atop a market-share big enough to support third-party device-hackery like this. It’s “easy,” it’s “fun,” it’s a solder-less DIY touch-screen kit made specifically for the Acer Aspire One and Eee PC 900/901 netbooks. The 4-wire, resistive panel display with Mac, Linux, and Windows drivers sure looks easy enough to install. But we’ll wait for the reviews to see just how well the $96 panel (a cool 25% of the netbook’s price) performs under day-to-day use, thankyouverymuch. Acer eMachines eMD620-5777 Laptop For $430

Acer has recently rolled out its eMD620-5777 notebook that features a 14.1-inch widescreen display with AMD Athlon 1.6GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, Wi-Fi connectivity, DVD-R/RW drive and ATI Radeon X1200 graphics chipset. I don’t know why this laptop only has two USB ports. However, the good news is that it is priced at only $430. The new Acer eMachines will be available on November 1st onwards. [PCLaunches]

Aspire One shipments on pace to beat Eee PC

Acer’s Aspire One has been somewhat overlooked in the face of a relentless barrage of Eee PCs and other netbooks, but slow and steady tends to win the race — Acer says it’s on track to ship six million machines this year, which is ahead of ASUS’s target of five million Eees. Acer’s mostly pulled into the lead due to its size and ability to push the Aspire One globally, while ASUS (which less than half the revenue) has been building the Eee market by market. Of course, that doesn’t mean ASUS is going down without a fight — we’ve already seen some aggressive ads, and Acer doesn’t have anything to match machines like the S101. Looks like the netbook market is starting to get heated — it’ll be interesting to see how this all shakes out over the next few months.

Acer Upgrades HDD Capacity For Aspire One Netbook

Here is good news for those who have the Acer Aspire One netbook. Acer has upgraded this netbook with the larger 40GB hard disk drive so the total storage capacity will be 160GB. Other features include 1GB of RAM, an N270 Atom CPU, and a 8.9 inch WSVGA screen with LED backlight. The price for the upgrade version is around €430 in Japan. [Akihabara]

Acer 15.4-inch Entry Level Notebook PC in Japan

Acer will launch its eMachines-branded entry level notebook PC in Japan. Known as the Acer E520, the laptop will be released on October 31th, 2008. The laptop comes equipped with a 15.4-inch wide LCD screen (1,280 x 800 resolution) with a 2Ghz Intel Celeron 575 CPU, 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard disk drive. Priced at 59,800 Yen Japan, the laptop is powered by Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium OS and adopts DVD Super-Multi drive and Intel GL40 Express chipset. Its battery offers 3 hours of juice. Latest Acer Aspire One Netbook Variants

Acer has updated its Aspire One netbook series with some new variants. The new models come equipped with SSDs, Windows XP OS, and an integrated 3G wireless modem for mobile wireless connectivity. Acer's AX3200 is the little Blu-ray PC that could, has a 1080p LCD friend

Acer believes you’re seeking a PC with a Blu-ray drive and formidable storage space so you can watch hours and hours of high definition video. That’s why it’s introducing the AX3200 desktop (suggested retail: $679.99) to go with the P244W 24-inch 1080p LCD display ($399) — to fill that consumer electronics-shaped hole that you didn’t even know existed within you. The compact desktop sports an AMD Phenom X3 8450 triple-core processor, 4GB of RAM, a 640GB hard drive, and NVIDIA’s GeForce 8200 integrated graphics chip. Aspire One, speed testing

Yesterday was a pretty big day for Sprint (along with a number of laptop manufacturers), as America’s had its first major glimpse at widespread WiMAX. A few other tidbits lingering from the mayhem were the obligatory speed tests — which were decidedly average — and what’s believed to be a prototype Aspire One with inbuilt WiMAX capabilities. Said netbook was residing within an Intel-branded van, and while it wasn’t made clear if Acer had any plans of bringing such a beast to the commercial realm, the folks at Laptop found the WiMAX surfing to be respectable, but not mind-blowing, as the New York Times homepage took around 15 seconds to load completely. Mr. Dave Zatz was able to pull down around 4,600kbps (and 1,519kbps up) in an impromptu speed test, while Kevin over at jkOnTheRun only managed 3,435kbps down / 1,555kbps up. As always, YMMV.

Acer launches WiMAX-enabled

 Hot on the heels of Lenovo comes Acer, which is somehow claiming “first!11one!” in the US market with WiMAX-enabled laptops. Introduced today in Baltimore in conjunction with the formal unveiling of Sprint’s XOHM network, the Aspire 4930-6862 and Aspire 6930-6771 both include the innate ability to hop on a WiMAX network and surf at 4G speeds. As for specs, the former packs a 14.1-inch WXGA panel, 2GHz Core 2 Duo T7350 CPU, 3GB of RAM, WiFi / WiMAX capability, integrated graphics, a dual-layer DVD writer, 320GB SATA HDD, 5-in-1 card reader, built-in webcam, Windows Vista Premium and an $899.99 sticker. The larger 6930 differs only in the 16-inch 1,366 x 768 resolution panel, as everything else (price included) remains the same. Acer Aspire One UMPC Specs Unveiled

Acer today released its mini notebook computer, which is designed to make online activities fast, simple and cool. Known as the Acer Aspire One, the laptop measures at only 9.8-inches x 6.7-inches x 1.14-inches and weighs at around two pounds. The Aspire One adopts 8.9-inch CrystalBrite LED backlit display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels with integrated Acer CrystalEye webcam. Other features include an Intel Atom processor, Linpus Linux Lite or Windows XP Home, a 512MB or 1GB of RAM, and a NAND flash module of 8GB or an 80GB internal HDD. Its card reader is able to read Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, and xD-Picture Card. Acer Releases Gemstone Blue in US

The Acer Aspire Gemstone Blue notebooks will be available soon in the US via authorized resellers and selected retailers. The Gemstone Blue line are claimed to be the first 18.4 inch and 16 inch laptops in the market with true High Definition cinematic capabilities. Acer Aspire 5920G-932G25 15.4 Inch Wide Notebook PC

Taiwanese Acer has decided to release the Aspire 5920G-932G25 in the Japanese market. The 15.4-inch wide laptop is based on Intel’s Penryn platform and comes equipped with 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo T9500, 250GB HDD and 2GB RAM. The desktop replacement also provides 1,280 x 800 WXGA resolution, 1.3MP webcam and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. The Acer 5920G will be available on 6th March 2008 for around $1,645. [Aving]
